Color
Accurate
representation of rug colors to our customers’ satisfaction
remains one of the most difficult challenges in the rug
business. Manufacturers’
catalogs include many different statements, such as “colors
in this catalog are for illustrative purposes only
and may not represent exact rug colors”.
Logic
and the spectrophotometer tell us that printers’ inks
on paper will never match exactly textile dyes on fibers,
yet we often have no choice but to “trust” printed
catalogs. For
these reasons, we always recommend that our customers seek
out their desired rugs locally and “in person”
and then contact us about pricing and delivery.
In addition, we
have learned to our regret that most color photographs tend
not to be accurate for colors. Internet transmissions of
photos is dependent upon equipment at both ends of the system
as well as the adjustments to that equipment.
The
approach we have come to rely on, next to physically seeing
a given rug, is sending color prints from catalog illustrations
made on a commercial DocuColor 12 Xerox machine. We will
gladly send you prints of your choice by regular mail at
no charge. We can provide priority shipment at the customer’s
expense, if requested.
Moreover, we
have successfully used the Sherwin Williams paint color
designations to communicate color nomenclature in several
instances. We will also make every effort to work from customer
swatches.
Two
other methods are available: First, we have on hand the
numbered color fiber samples from the rug manufacturers,
and, second, the Pantone Matching System designations (uncoated
series) and swatches enable accurate communication of color
nomenclature.
We invite you to discuss your specific requirements with our skilled staff!
