Rugs As Art, Inc. was established in 1986 in the Gulf Gate shopping district of Sarasota, Florida by John and Lucy Murse. The 800 sq. ft. store was founded on the objectives of providing quality area rugs to the Sarasota market with superior selection, outstanding service and highly attractive pricing. That selection has always included top quality traditional Orientals, world-class contemporary designs and many levels of classics in between.
In 1989, the store was relocated to a South Tamiami Trail location of 4,500 sq. ft. Continued growth and national recognition were bolstered by aggressive local advertising, including television. The store went “on line” in 1992 with an Internet Web site and the clientel grew to be national and international.
June, 2001, marked the move to a new 20,000 sq. ft. building two miles south of the previous South Trail location. Fourteen foot ceilings, handsome hardwood flooring, excellent lighting and efficient rack systems accommodate several thousand rugs, accessories and furnishings. Separate areas are dedicated to handmade, machine made and custom made area rugs. Customers and floor covering professionals agree that the new store is, indeed, a showplace.
Over 35 years as a staple in Sarasota, the Murse family continues to earn high praise from not only customers, but international vendors, manufacturers and industry icons.
Rugs As Art, Inc. also includes a Designer Resource Center located in the Sarasota showroom. The Designer Resource Center specializes in carpeting and custom area rugs. Rugs As Art proudly serves the west coast of Florida, including Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Port Charlotte, Naples and Fort Myers.

He attended St. Petersburg College and the University of New Hampshire and has a degree in sales and marketing. Before joining Rugs As Art, he was in furniture sales and management for over 30 years. Andy loves helping his customers find that perfect rug to complete a room. When not spending time with his family, Andy enjoys playing guitar in his original rock band in Venice, Florida. |
